Pakistan opener Azhar Ali became the first Pakistani cricketer to score a double-century in Tests in Australia. Azhar remained unbeaten on 205 off 364 deliveries, as Pakistan declared their first innings at 443 for 9, on Day Three of the second Test, at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Azhar has been on a record-breaking spree, as his double century second of the year and third overall is now the highest individual score by a Pakistani batsman in Australia. The highest individual score for any Pakistani, against Australia, is Saleem Malik s 231, which he scored at Rawalpindi in October 1994.

Azhar also became only the fourth visiting batsmen to score a double-hundred at MCG, joining the club that features Vivian Richards who scored 208 in December 1984 the highest score by a visiting batsman. South Africa s Aubrey Faulkner scored 204 in December 1910, ranking third on the list, followed by England s Wally Hammond (200 in December 1928). Azhar is also the only Pakistani player to score two double-hundreds in 2016 and has the highest score of 302* against West Indies in UAE. Azhar now has scored 1,000-plus runs in this calendar year.

Having achieved the feat, Twitter showed heaps of praises on the Pakistan opener. Here are some of the best Tweets from the cricket fraternity, acknowledging Azhar’s brilliance:
