Thanks to the timely knocks of Azhar Ali and Younis Khan, Pakistan are dominating proceedings against Bangladesh at Tea on Day One of the second Test at Dhaka. At the end of post lunch session Pakistan were 196 for Two. Both Azhar and Younis have already scored their half-centuries. In that session the visitors made 126 runs in 31 overs. Live Scorecard: Bangladesh vs Pakistan, 2nd Test Day 1
For Pakistan No. 3, Azhar this was his 20th Test fifty, whereas for veteran Younis it was the 3oth half-century in the longer format of the game. Both recused their team with some solid display of technique, attitude and batsmanship. Thanks to this unbeaten partnership currently Bangladesh are completely on backfoot and their bowlers looked ordinary on greenish track. Apart from pacer Mohammad Shahid who has already bowled 16 overs on a hot and humid day at Dahaka. Apart from him no other Bangladeshi bowler looked threatening enough. Live Updates: Bangladesh vs Pakistan 2nd Test, Day 1
At Lunch Pakistan were 70 for two. one more wicket there and Bangladesh could have troubled the visitors. But the experience pair of Azhar and Younis didn’t allow Bangladeshi bowlers to dominate. They attacked the spinners trio of Taijul Islam Shuvagata Hom and Shkib al Hasan. Especially Younis was very aggressive in the last session. Bangladesh clearly missed one additional pacer on this track.
Earlier Bangladesh were off to a poor start on field after Mushfiqur Rahim won an important toss and and decided to insert Pakistan in on a pitch which has some green tinged on it. Both teams have made one change each. For Bangladesh Shahadat Hossain replaced injured Rubel Hossain. Pakistan on the other hand have brought in pacer Imran Khan in place of Zulfiqar Babar.
In the first over of the day, Shahadat, who is playing his first Test of the series, went out of the field. After bowling just two balls he collapsed in his follow through and tumbled on his knee. The physio come out and Shahadat had to take and break. An unfortunate beginning for Bangladesh. Soumya Sarkar completes the over. That was a big blow for Bangladesh, especially on this Dhaka pitch, which has helped the fast bowler so far. Till their is no news about his return. Ideally, after Tea, Bangladesh would have love to give the old ball to him to get some reverse swing. Rahim needs to pull something out of the box to get back in the game.
Brief Score:
Pakistan 196 for 2 (Azhar Ali 85*, Younis Khan 77*; Mohammad Shahid 1 for 31) vs Bangladesh.
