Seventeen-year-old Shaad Ali would probably have witnessed the fatal accident that took his friend Ajmal-ur-Rahmanâs life, had he woken up on time on the fateful Sunday, September 11 morning. Ajmal and Shaad spoke on Saturday night regarding the bike trip, which Shaad missed because he had overslept.
Â
“Ajmal is (was) a very good friend of mine. I wasn’t too close to Ayaz, though I have met him,” Shaad told the Times of India.
Â
He said, “On Saturday, Ajmal had called me saying, ‘Bhai, kal subah road trip pe chalte hain, Ayaz bhai, you, your friend and I.’ I asked him what we will do on a road trip? He said, ‘We will speed race and try to break our own record of 220 km per hour’.”
Â
“I got a little apprehensive and said, ‘It’s dangerous, there could be accidents!’
Â
But Ajmal said, ‘Dekhte hain na, chalte hain trip pe.'”
Â
The plan was that Ajmal and Mohammad Azharuddinâs son Ayazuddin, would be on latterâs Suzuki GSX R 1000 and Shaad would be on his friendâs Suzuki Hayabusa. But Shaad slept late on Saturday night and didnât get up on time the next morning.
Â
He shared, “I had told Ajmal I will go on the road trip. Yes, I was supposed to be a part of it. But I partied till late night on Saturday and put my phone on silent as I don’t like to be disturbed in my sleep after a long night. I woke up at 8.30 am to the news of Ajmal and Ayaz’s accident. I was shocked.”
Â
“When I checked my phone, there were 10 missed calls from Ajmal between 6.30 am-7.00 am. I immediately called up Ajmal’s dad and he informed me about the accident and that they have been rushed to hospital. I could not believe it. I was to be part of this trip! I am extremely sad for Ajmal and Ayaz. I rushed to hospital. It’s sad we lost Ajmal. I miss him.”
Â
Ajmal, 16, even had a conversation on Facebook with 19-year old Ayaz, who is now battling for in life in the Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad.
