Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi to be Removed from Pakistan team after Champions Trophy 2025 breakdown: Report
PCB might remove Babar and Shaheen from team following Champions Trophy debacle
Pakistan hosted an ICC tournament for the first time since 1996, as they hosted the 2025 edition of Champions Trophy. Their campaign, however, was nothing less than horrific. They got knocked out of the tournament within 5 days as they got defeated by New Zealand and India. This horrific campaign had a massive impact on the future of their popular players like Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi.
As per report by Cricket Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a review of the team’s performance after the Champions Trophy 2025 comes to an end. This might include a significant change in the squad, with special focus on Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah.
Even though head coach Aaqib Javed has stated that he does not wish to resign after the ICC tournament, the PCB might also sack him from the role.
Pakistan team finished the tournament with a single point and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of -1.087 (negative). They have hence finished on the bottom of the table with no victories to their name. The team is the first hosting nation to finish at the bottom on the table without any victories on board.
