Babar Hayat’s 122 against Oman helps him enter the top 5 for most number of runs scored in a T20I innings

Babar Hayat became the first Hong Kong batsmen to score a Twenty20 International (T20I) hundred. In his innings of 122 of just 60 balls, he also became the fourth highest in terms of runs scored in an T20 innings. Hong Kong were playing Oman in match No.2 of the Asia Cup T20 2016 Qualifier, chasing 180 his team just missed the target by 5 runs. Babar Hayat is the second associate country player to feature in the top 5 of the most runs in a T20 innings table. Coming in at No.2 is another Australia, Shane Watson who whipped India for 124* in 71 balls at Sydney last month. No.3 position is occupied by New Zealand’s talisman batsmen Brendon McCullum, smashing Bangladesh bowlers for 122 runs off 60 balls in 2012. Just below Hayat its South Africa’s T20 skipper Faf Du Plessis, who hit 119 runs facing 56 balls against West Indies early last year in January. At No.6 is Afghanistan’s Mohammad Shahzad who was earlier in top 5 before Hayat’s century with his unbeaten century 118* against Zimbabwe.

Hayat’s 122 is also the highest ever run scored by an associate nation player, previously held by Shahzad (118*). This is also the highest run scored by any batsman in T20I to end up at the side of the losing team.
