Bangladesh has announced its 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das will captain the team. Bangladesh will play its first match in the T20 World Cup on February 7.
Bangladesh’s batting will largely depend on the captain, with Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon providing support. The Asian team boasts a strong bowling attack, led by the experienced Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed. Mehidy Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, and Rishad Hossain are expected to play crucial roles in turning the tide of matches and making Bangladesh a strong contender in the tournament.
Bangladesh has been placed in Group C along with England, West Indies, Nepal, and Italy. A total of 40 group matches will be played between February 7th and 20th, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super Eight stage of the tournament, which begins on February 21st. Bangladesh has participated in every T20 World Cup but has yet to reach the semi-finals or beyond. They will begin their campaign against West Indies on February 7th.
After the Super Eight stage, the top four teams will qualify for the knockout stage of the event. The semi-finals will be held in Kolkata/Colombo and Mumbai, followed by the final in Ahmedabad/Colombo on March 8th.
Amidst rising tensions between India and Bangladesh, and following the BCCI’s recent decision to release Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has demanded that Bangladesh’s World Cup matches be shifted to Sri Lanka. However, the ICC has not yet responded to this request.
