Bangladesh Premier League 2016 player draft to take place on September 30

The player draft for Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2016, will be held on September 30, according to the league’s governing body. The tournament will begin November 4. Although the BCB did not confirm that whether the draft this year would follow the same format that was followed last year. In 2015, franchises had called out selections of local and overseas players. It was seen that the top Bangladesh cricketers were divided equally after a separate lottery. Their will be seven franchises in this year’s edition. In 2012, 2013 and 2015, there were six teams participating. Khulna and Rajshahi have returned to participate in this year’s edition. Comilla Victorians were the champions last year. Barisal Bulls, Dhaka Dynamites, Chittagong Vikings and Rangpur Riders are the remaining four franchises. Sylhet franchise, wil be missing out on this year’s edition of the BPL, after it was reported by BCB that they had breached franchisee agreement terms.

While the BCB had mentioned that Gemcon Group and Mango Entertainment Ltd had “specifically expressed interest in owning the Khulna and Rajshahi franchises respectively”, the identity of the Khulna and Rajashahi owners is unknown. BCB will be announcing the names after Eid.

Meanwhile, the third edition of the (BPL) concluded with the final game contested on December 15 between Comilla Victorians and Barisal Bulls at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The tournament turned out to be a raging success, as the event often witnessed matches taking place in front of packed venues and electrifying atmospheres, as well as a series of thrillers and brilliant individual performances.
