Sri Lanka bundled out visitors Bangladesh for 312 at the end of Day Three at Galle. However, the match was called off early due to rain. Skipper Rangana Herath picked up the final wicket, dismissing Mustafizur Rahman, with Bangladesh trailing by 182 runs. Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar were the major contributors up the order, while Mushfiqur and Mehedi Hasan built up a crucial partnership adding in excess of 100 runs to bring solidity to Bangladesh s batting. Bangladesh resumed batting at 133 for 2 on Thursday morning, but soon lost set Soumya Sarkar for 71. Shakib Al Hasan, their most dependable middle-order batsman, also departed early, contributing only 23 runs. He played a poor shot, edging a delivery down the leg which was safely caught by Niroshan Dickwella behind the stumps. Bangladesh lost two wickets in quick succession after that. Mehedi Hasan batted with confidence from the very beginning. He hit a couple of boundaries in the very over Sri Lanka lost Liton, reducing some of the pressure built due to successive wickets. He played the perfect partner to skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, who held the innings, batting with composure. Meanwhile, a decision by Aleem Dar was reversed. Herath appealed hard for lbw and the umpire raised his finger but Mehedi was sure of an inside edge. Later, the replay revealed Mehedi to be true.

Bangladesh increased the scoring rate coming back from tea, and Mehedi and Mushfiqur built up a 100-run partnership. Sri Lankan bowlers produced a few chances, but they were put down. It was not until Dilruwan Perera came into the attack that Sri Lanka could break the partnership.

Dilruwan removed Mehedi for 41 and, off the next ball, sent back Taskin Ahmed for a golden duck. The over changed the way the game was progressing. Scoring rate was decelerated. Rangana Herath removed Mushfiqur soon after for 85. Early tea was taken due to overcast conditions and Bangladesh were 312 for 9 at the time.

The match resumed for a brief period and Herath did the needful, removing Mustafizur for 4 and bundling out Bangladesh for 312. Match was further interrupted due to rain and was later called off.
