Bangladesh have set Zimbabwe an imposing target of 298 in the third One-Day international at Dhaka. This is Bangladesh’s highest total for the series and Should Zimbabwe fail to chase it down, it will give them an unassailable lead in the five match series.

Earlier Bangladesh openers continued their good run of form, registering a second successive partnership of 100 or above. and in doing so the duo became the first opening combination for Bangladesh to achieve that rare distinction.  It was their opening stand of 121 which laid the foundation for the target of 298 they’ve set Zimbabwe. Anamul Haque outscored his flamboyant left-handed partner, falling just five short of what would have been his 4th ODI century.

Unlike the previous game in which Bangladesh self destructed after a similar platform was laid, they carried the momentum to the very end of their innings courtesy cameos of 40, 33 and 33*  by Shakib-Al-Hasan and Mushfiqur Rehman and Mahmudullah respectively.  The Zimbabwean bowling effort lacked oomph as they failed to pick up wickets or stem the flow of runs at any stage of the game. If the previous two games of the series were any indication, Bangladesh may have batted Zimbabwe out of the game and the series.

Brief scores:

Bangladesh 297 for 6 in 50 overs (Anamul Haque 95, Tamim Iqbal 40; Tinashe Panyangara 2 for 54, Hamilton Masakadza 1 for 25) vs Zimbabwe
