Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim has won the toss and elected to bowl first against Pakistan in the first One-Day International (ODI) of the Asia Cup at Dhaka on Sunday.

The Pakistani squad led by captain Misbah-ul-Haq, along with newly appointed head coach Dav Whatmore, seemed upbeat ahead of the tournament opener.

Misbah-ul-Haq, talking to media, admitted that the team couldn’t perform well against England in limited overs games but he hoped a better performance from the players in the Asia Cup and promised that “we shall try not to repeat mistakes”.

Bangladesh on the other hand would like to put controversy over selection of batsman Tamim Iqbal aside and would like to begin their Asia Cup campaign on a winning note.

Iqbal, who was dropped from the Asia Cup squad, was recalled for the four-nation tournament that starts March 11.

“Tamim has been included after passing a fitness test,” selector Minhajul Abedin was quoted saying by the Dawn.

Chief selector Akram Khan had resigned in protest over Iqbal s exclusion.
