Bangladesh Women confirm spot in ICC Women’s World T20 2016

Bangladesh Women’s will make their second appearance in the event since their debut in the year 2014

Bangladesh Women’s confirm their spot in the final round International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s World Twenty20 2016 tournament after defeating the Zimbabwe Women’s team by 31 runs in the qualifiers at Terdthai Cricket Ground, Bangkok. Batting first, the Bangladesh Women’s put up 89 with the loss of 5 wickets. Fargana Hoque scored a 43 ball 43 with the help of four fours while opener Sharmin Akhter added 22. Zimbabwe Women failed to chase the total as their batting order collapsed within 58 runs. Only Pellagia Mujaji could reach double digits, scoring 10 runs off 10 deliveries. Zimbabwe women’s inability to play spin was exposed as Spinner Rumana Ahmed took 4 wickets while trading only 8 runs in her four overs which helped the Bangladesh team pick up an easy victory. With the win, Bangladesh qualified for the mega event to be played in India in the year 2016. The other team to qualify for the event are Ireland, who defeated Scotland in the other qualifier. The teams who have already qualified for the event are Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and West Indies. With the qualification, Bangladesh Women’s will make their second appearance in the event since their debut in the year 2014 where they failed to win any of the four group stage matches.
