Barisal Bulls successfully defended their total of 161 and won a crucial encounter by 17 runs against Rajshahi Kings in match No. 35 of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2016 (BPL). Rajshahi Kings managed to score 144 runs for the loss of seven wickets from their 20 overs. Rayad Emrit bowled extremely well and chipped in with three wickets, most of them at crucial junctures to help his side beat Rajshahi Kings. Rajshahi Kings got off to a solid start and looked well on track as Moimnul Haque, Nurul Hasan got the ball rolling from the outset at Mirpur. Just when things were looking good for the Kings, Monir Hossain struck and got the better of Hasan for 12. Sabbir Rahman departed soon for eight as Kings were in trouble at 36 for the loss of two wickets inside four overs.

Samit Patel played a solid hand of 62 but lacked support from the other end. His innings contained seven boundaries and a solitary six. James Franklin played a ball to run 18, while Darren Sammy remained unbeaten on 11. Emrit did a commendable job in scalping key wickets and was equally supported by other bowlers.

Earlier, Rajshahi Kings won the toss and opted to field first on a surface, which looked good for batting. Barisal Bulls did not get off to a desired start as Jeevan Mendis was out for six. Mehedi Hasan drew the first blood and continued to impress with his wily off-spin. Dawid Malan, Fazle Mahmud did the repair work and accounted for 100 runs partnership between them. Malan played well and scored runs at a quick rate, he hit six boundaries and three sixes while Mahmud had four boundaries and couple of sixes to his name. Malan was run out after which Mahmud was undone in the same over. Perera played well and was well supported by Shahriar Nafees in the end. Mohammad Sami was the pick of the bowler with figures of four for 16.
