BCCI allows wives and families to stay with players during Champions Trophy: Report
BCCI allows family members to accompany players during Champions Trophy
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly allowed the Indian cricketers’ wives and families accompany them during the ICC Champions Trophy. The Indian team will be playing their share of matches in Dubai.
This decision comes after the company of family members was totally denied following the 10-point guidelines which were released by the BCCI following the comprehensive defeat in the Border-Gavaskar series.
According to a report in Dainik Jagran, though BCCI has allowed wives and family members of the players to accompany them in Dubai, a firm condition has been put in place. The players will be allowed to have their family members accompany them only for one match.
Earlier, the BCCI had approved only a 2-week window for the families to stay with the players when an overseas tour exceeded 45 days.
For short tournaments like the Champions Trophy, the company of family members wasn’t allowed, however considering the nature of the event, the board has allowed family members of every player to accompany them for one game.
Team India is set to begin their Champions Trophy campaign with a clash against Bangladesh on February 20. The Men in Blue will then be squaring-off against arch-rivals Pakistan on February 23 before taking on New Zealand on March 2.
