BCCI announce schedule of Indian Premier League 2012

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings will face Mumbai Indians in the opening match of IPL 5 AFP

The fifth edition of the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament will be held from April 4 to May 27, 2012 and will have total of 76 matches to be played between nine teams.

The tournament begins with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on the winners of Champions League T20, Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

A new stadium in Pune, which is subject to final completion, is set to make its debut as an IPL venue. It will host all eight ‘home games of the Pune Warriors India.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced on its portal that Dharamsala, Cuttack and Vizag will host two games each.

The league stages will have 72 matches with each team playing the other eight in a home-and-away format.

The venue of the two finalist teams from 2011 edition Bengaluru and Chennai will host the play offs.
