Ravi Sawant, president of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), has been reportedly appointed as the treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday.

According to a Zee News report, Sawant comes in for Ajay Shirke, who had earlier resigned in the wake of the spot-fixing controversy and the manner in which it was being handled by the BCCI.

The working commitee members of the board had earlier requested Shirke to reconsider his decision to resign, with N Srinivasan having stepped aside. However, Shirke ruled out his return. This prompted the board to look for other candidates to fill his role.

Top officials from the board held an emergency meeting on Monday after it emerged that Rajasthan Royals’ co-owner Raj Kundra was involved in betting during the Indian Premier League (IPL). During the meeting, they decided to suspend Kundra till the BCCI probe into the matter is over.
