BCCI fines Iyer for maintaining slow-over rate against CSK
Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer has been handed a fine of INR 12 lakh by the BCCI for maintaining a slow-over rate during his side’s clash against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday.
This is the team’s first offense in the ongoing season thus, Iyer wasn’t given a heavier fine by the board. PBKS was punished for the same during the match as well and were allowed to keep only 4 fielders outside the circle for the final over of CSK’s innings.
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Shreyas Iyer was fined INR 12 Lakh,” the IPL said in a statement.
PBKS handed CSK their eighth defeat of the season which also saw the Chennai-based franchise become the first team to get eliminated from the tournament this season.
On the other hand, the victory saw PBKS climb to the second position on the table with 13 points. They are only behind the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who currently sit at the top with 14 points.
Iyer played a terrific knock of 72 runs from 41 deliveries, hitting 5 boundaries and 4 sixes as PBKS chased down the target of 191 with 2 balls left to spare at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
“I love chasing on any field. I feel like I thrive whenever there is a big total on the board and you need to take the charge and momentum for the team for the rest of the batters to come and go full throttle,” Iyer said while speaking at the post-match presentation,” Iyer said after the match.
