Thereâs still no resolution to the ongoing dispute over the Asia Cup trophy, as Mohsin Naqvi, who heads both the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), continues to hold onto the trophy.
According to NDTV sources, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sent a fresh warning to Naqvi, demanding that he return the trophy to India. If he fails to do so, the BCCI may take the issue to the International Cricket Council (ICC) during its upcoming meeting next month.
The controversy began after the Indian team refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi during the post-match ceremony in Dubai. Their decision was influenced by ongoing geopolitical tensions and Naqviâs key position in the Pakistani government. Naqvi, who serves as both the PCB Chairman and Pakistanâs Interior Minister, then took the trophy from the ceremony and locked it in his Dubai office, which sparked the ongoing dispute.
The situation has become more complicated because Mohsin Naqvi has made specific demands about how the trophy should be handed over. According to BCCI sources, Naqvi wants a formal event where Indiaâs T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, would personally receive the trophy from him.
However, the BCCI has refused this request, stating that the trophy and the winnersâ medals should be sent directly to the ACC headquarters for official collection, rather than organizing a separate ceremony.
The BCCI reportedly has the backing of the Afghanistan and Sri Lanka cricket boards in the ongoing trophy dispute, but Mohsin Naqvi has still refused to give in.
The BCCI maintains that the Asia Cup trophy belongs to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and is not anyoneâs personal property. Since the issue remains unresolved, the matter is now expected to be taken to the international level. According to NDTV, the BCCI plans to raise the issue at the ICC meeting in Dubai in November, where they will formally protest against Naqviâs actions during the final and his refusal to return the winnerâs trophy and medals to Team India.
The BCCI has also warned Mohsin Naqvi not to raise complaints against the Indian board to ICC members. Naqvi, on his part, claimed that he was humiliated during the Asia Cup final ceremony, saying he was made to look like a âjokerâ as he waited on stage for the Indian players to collect the trophy, which they refused to accept from him.
