Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are likely to return to action in August, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is working on a revised schedule after the India tour of Bangladesh was postponed to September 2026 last week.

The Indian cricket team was scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is against Bangladesh, but the tour was later postponed due to safety concerns. As a result, the Men in Blue have no ODI matches lined up until October, when they are set to tour Australia for a series of three ODIs and five T20Is.

India’s decision to skip the series against Bangladesh has created a long gap in their calendar, with no matches scheduled between August 4 the end of the England tour and October 2, when the home Test series against the West Indies begins. Despite the fact that the 2025 Asia Cup is set for September, political difficulties between Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India have made it uncertain whether the event would proceed as planned.

According to a Newswire report, the BCCI and Cricket Sri Lanka are negotiating to play three ODIs and as many T20Is in August. The 2025 Lankan Premier League was initially slated to take place in July or August, but the Sri Lankan board decided to postpone it, which made room for the series.

After the current series against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka will have plenty of time to host Team India before embarking on an away tour of Zimbabwe beginning on August 29.

Since both Rohit and Virat retired from Test cricket in May and T20Is last year, ODI is still the only format in which they are currently playing.
