Shashank Manohar was elected the new ICC President unopposed earlier on Thursday and the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) have welcomed this move. Manohar had recently stepped down as the BCCI President so that he can become the new ICC President. Manohar had taken over the reins of the BCCI after the sad demise of Jagmohan Dalmiya and Manohar therefore became the first ever independent Chairman of the ICC. Anurag Thakur, who is in contention to become the next President of the BCCI in a press release said, “The BCCI welcomes the unopposed election of Mr. Shashank Manohar as the Chairman of the ICC.” READ: Shashank Manohar elected new ICC Chairman

Congratulating Mr. Manohar on his new assignment, BCCI Secretary Mr. Anurag Thakur said: “Mr. Shashank Manohar’s unanimous, unopposed election is a matter of pride for India. With his vast administrative experience he will provide leadership to the ICC to strengthen the position of cricket at the global level. Upon becoming the new ICC Chairman Manohar said,“It is an honour to be elected as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council and for that I am thankful to all the ICC directors who have put their faith and trust in my abilities. I also take this opportunity to thank all my colleagues in the BCCI who have supported me during my recent time as the BCCI’s President,” Manohar said as reported by icc-cricket.com. With the election, Manohar becomes in-charge with immediate effect.
