Ahead of Ben Stokes‘ debut in New Zealand‘s domestic circuit, Jimmy Neesham said that the English all-rounder is no Don Bradman. Stokes, who signed up with Canterbury, will play his first match on this weekend.

Neesham, who plays for Otago, said: “He’s just another player at the end of the day. It’s not like Don Bradman is walking out to bat.

Stokes was suspended by ECB after finding him guilty of being involved in a street-brawl in Bristol.

Otago coach Rob Walter, too, dismissed the hype. “It’s about being smart and bowling our best balls to him like we would to any other batter. He can also get out. It’s not as if he’s never got out in his life. We’ve got just as much chance of getting him out.”

The police have now passed the case to prosecutors for “charging advice”. Stokes is likely to join the squad once the case is cleared up.

England trail 0-1 to Australia. The second Test begins on Saturday at Adelaide.
