As they were not able to handle the top-order performances by Indian batters, England captain ben Stokes gave credit to the bowlers for mercilessly dismissing the lower-order- and not just once, but twice. After the English team secured a 5-wicket victory, their captain labelled the collapse as the ‘pivotal‘ moment.

After the initial strong performances by Indian side, Ben Stokes said that the match reached a turning point when England’s bowlers prevented India from posting a total that might have been untouchable.

“…But some other pivotal moments in the game, obviously there will be people who get the headlines here, but the way in which we were able to knock the Indian tail over very quickly on two occasions was also a massive reason to why we were able to restrict them to a score that we definitely felt comfortable to be able to chase…,” Stokes said at the post-match media interaction.

Speaking about the match, Indian team performed really well, with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, top-order batter KL Rahul, captain Shubman Gill scoring a century each, along with and vice-captain/wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant scoring twin centuries. However, they could not make use of this performance and lost the match.

Even though India lost the first match of the series, there still is a chance to clap back as there are 4 matches remaining in the series. The second Test is going to begin June 2 in Edgbaston.

Ben Duckett top-scored with 149 as England beat India by five wickets in the first Test of the five-match series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Resuming at 21 for no loss on the fifth and final day, England remained unscathed in the first session and even as India fought back with four wickets in the second, they remained ahead in the chase.

Chasing 371 for the win, the hosts reached 373 for 5 from 82 overs.
