Bengal bag three points against Railways in Cooch Behar Trophy

Bengal batsmen notched up four centuries to declare their first innings for 685 for eight on the fourth and last day at Kalyani

Bengal drew against Railways but their first innings lead earned them three points and a promotion to the Elite group of the Cooch Behar Trophy (U-19) for the upcoming season.

It was a commanding performance by Bengal batsmen who notched up four centuries to declare their first innings for 685/8 on the fourth and last day at Kalyani, near here.

In reply to Railways 250, Bengal resuming at the overnight score of 645/7 added another 40 runs and declared their innings after Aamir Gani completed his century.

Earlier yesterday, skipper Sandipan Das (130), Abhijit Mondal (133) and Vivek Singh (106) had slammed centuries.

Railways in their second essay ended the day for 312/8 with H J Singh remaining unbeaten on 109 but the century was of little consequence as Bengal’s first innings lead proved to be the decisive factor.

Bengal had in the last season suffered relegation to the Plate Division.(PTI)
