Bhutan spinner Sonam Yeshey has achieved a remarkable feat in T20 International cricket. Sonam has become the first bowler to take eight wickets in a men’s T20 International match.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the left-arm spinner achieved this milestone on Friday, December 26, during the third T20 International match against Myanmar at the Gelephu Mindfulness City in Bhutan. The 22-year-old bowler took eight wickets for just seven runs in four overs, including one maiden, helping Bhutan bowl out Myanmar for 45 runs. Bhutan had scored 127 runs for nine wickets in their innings. Bhutan won the match by 82 runs.
Bhutan Cricket posted on X (formerly Twitter): “A memorable spell! Sonam Yeshey produced an incredible performance, taking 8 wickets for 7 runs in 4 overs, setting a new world record.”
Syazrul Idrus and Ali Dawood’s records surpassed
No bowler had ever taken eight wickets in any type of T20 match before. The previous best bowling figures in T20 International cricket belonged to Malaysian fast bowler Syazrul Idrus, who took seven wickets for eight runs against China in 2023. Besides him, Bahrain’s Ali Dawood is the only other bowler to have taken seven wickets in a T20 International match. He achieved this feat earlier this year against Bhutan, taking seven wickets for 19 runs.
