Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah ripped apart the Bangladesh batting order on the fifth day of the second Test as India cruised to a 7-wicket win and a 2-0 series whitewash over Bangladesh. This win also extended their record to 18 consecutive series triumphs at home.

Even though 2 days of the Test match got abandoned due to rain, it was India’s aggressive approach both with the bat and the ball which led to their victory. The outright victory consolidated India’s pole position in the ICC World Test Championship Table (WTC) with 74.24 percentage points.

Bangladesh needed a resolute fightback on the final day to salvage a draw but they collapsed to 146 after resuming the day 26/2. Bumrah (3/17), Ravichandran Ashwin (3/50) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/34) shared bulk of the spoils.

India scored the required 95 runs in 17.2 overs with ‘Player Of The Match’ Yashasvi Jaiswal (51) scoring his second fifty of the match.

For Bangladesh, opener Shadman Islam (51) and Mushfiqur Rahim (37) were the only batters who offered some resistance while the others had no answer to the fantastic bowling by the Indian team.

The biggest disappointment was Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto’s reckless reverse sweep off Jadeja that opened the floodgates.

India knocked off the required 95 runs in 17.2 overs after losing Rohit Sharma (8) and Shubman Gill (6) to off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz .

Jaiswal (51) and Virat Kohli (29*) shared a 58-run stand for the third wicket before Rishabh Pant hit the winning runs.

India have not lost a match to Bangladesh in Test cricket and the fact that they won this contest in a mere 6 sessions after losing 2 full days to rain, speaks volumes of the gap between the 2 teams.
