Sylhet Sixers were involved in a controversy along with opponents Rangpur Riders after Kamrul Islam Rabbi of the latter had bowled a seven-ball over during their match in the 2017 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Riders later went on to win the match with just two balls to spare. Sixers later went on to file a complaint with the BPL governing council against the umpires, who failed to gain proper assistance from the official scorer. Although the umpires had sought assistance from the third umpire prior to the delivery, it turned out to be a wrong one. Former chief selector Faruk Ahmed too expressed his disappointment over the issue. BPL 2017-18 Schedule and Points Table

On the seven-ball over issue

“It is simply not acceptable. In a close match, a ball can make a huge difference. Bopara saw to it that he retained the strike and eventually helped his side by scoring those vital runs in the next over. Umpires are humans and can make mistakes but why didn’t they take the help of official scorers when we raised our issue and it seems to be quite strange as far as I am concerned. They had walkie-talkies and all technical support available but why didn’t they use it,” said Faruk, as reported by Cricbuzz.
