BREAKING: Jasprit Bumrah adjudged ICC Cricketer of the Year for 2024

The India pacer became only the fifth player from the country to win the prestigious award following stunning bowling performances throughout the year

India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been named the ICC Cricketer of the Year following stellar bowling performances throughout 2024. With this, Bumrah became the fifth Indian to win the prestigious award.

The pacer joins Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Ravichandran Ashwin and Virat Kohli as the only Indian players to win the Cricketer of the Year award.

Bumrah beat tough competition from Travis Head, Joe Root and Harry Brook to win the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Award. The pacer was brilliant for the Men in Blue throughout the year in both the Test and T20I format.

Bumrah started the year with a terrific performance against England at home before starring in India’s T20 World Cup triumph. The India seamer ended the tournament with an astonishing 15 wickets and an average of 8.26 as the Men in Blue defeated South Africa in the final to lift the trophy. Bumrah was adjudged as the Player of the Tournament for his stunning bowling displays.

Bumrah’s performance in Tests made him really stand out from the rest of the nominees. The pacer picked up 71 wickets in 13 matches, the highest by any bowler in 2024. His performance in the Border-Gavaskar series was especially brilliant as he finished the 5-match Test series against Australia with 32 wickets and was adjudged the Player of the Series as well.

“I am really happy to be winning the Sir Garfield Sobers Men’s Cricketer of the Year award. Last year was really memorable, especially winning the T20 World Cup in Barbados. It will always be close to my heart,” Bumrah said after winning the prestigious award.

“When I was a youngster, I saw many of my heroes winning this ICC award. I am very happy to be on the receiving end,” Bumrah added.
