New Delhi: In a massive development, India coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the Asia Cup. Senior journalist Vikrant Gupta gave an update about Rahul Dravid testing positive for Covid-19 via Twitter. Dravid was set to coach India in the upcoming Asia Cup but with five days to go before the commencement of the tournament, his participation in the Asia Cup looks unlikely at this moment. In Dravid’s absence, NCA head VVS Laxman can up the role of the India head coach.

India open their Asia Cup campaign against Pakistan on August 28 at the Dubai International Stadium. The mega tournament will commence with a game between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan on August 27. The defending champions India will be without the services of ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Pakistan too will miss the services of Shaheen Afridi due to an injury.

India and Pakistan are likely to clash three times in the Asia Cup 2022. After their tournament opener, the teams are likely to clash on September 4, which will see the top two teams from Group A face-off. The possibility of the teams reaching the final is also very high given the form of other competing teams.

Meanwhile, India recently defeated Zimbabwe in the three match ODI series. The Men In Blue defeated the hosts by 13 runs in the final ODI to complete a clean sweep. Shubman Gill scored his maiden century and helped India reach 289-9. Zimbabwe were down and out after losing 7 wickets for 169, but a blazing century by Sikandar Raza took them close.
