Brendon McCullum is now at par with AB de Villiers in terms of most consecutive Tests played since debut. The first Test of the two-Test series against Sri Lanka marked his 98th consecutive Test since debut. If all goes well, McCullum will definitely break the record in the next Test and will be eyeing the milestone of becoming the first player to play a hundred successive Tests since debut. McCullum made his Test match debut in March 2004 against South Africa and has since never given selectors reason to drop him. Live Cricket Scorecard, New Zealand vs Sri Lanka 2015-16, 1st Test at Dunedin

His averages were quite poor early on in his career but his wicket-keeping ability compromised for that. As the years passed, McCullum has shed the gloves but his batting improved drastically. Moreover, his aggressive brand of captaincy has taken New Zealand to great heights and to think of the Black Caps team with McCullum is quite unimaginable. McCullum currently averages in his late thirties with the bat. His productivity in terms of run scoring has seen a immense spike in the past few years. In the present New Zealand summer, there will be three more Tests after this and McCullum’s hundred consecutive Test match milestone is not afar. After the second Test match against Sri Lanka, New Zealand will be hosts to another two-Test series against Australia.

McCullum has indicated that this could be his last home summer and he’ll want to make the series count. In an earlier interview, he had hinted that the ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka could be his final ever Test at the University Oval, Dunedin.
