Brendon McCullum broke the record for the highest number of runs scored in a calender by a New Zealand batsman en route his innings of 195. McCullum has accumulated 1,164 in the calender year so far, and is followed by Kane Williamson, whose 898 runs in the current year is the second-highest in the New Zealand all-time list.

McCullum’s blistering knock guided New Zealand to a daunting score of 429 for seven at the end of the first day’s play against Sri Lanka at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
