‘Bumrah should be captain…’: Former Indian cricketer drops massive advice to BCCI on India’s captaincy ahead of England Test series

Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer believes that ahead of the five-match series against England, Jasprit Bumrah is the captaincy choice in Test matches as regular skipper Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from the longest format of the game.

Jasprit Bumrah was the deputy of Rohit Sharma during India’s last red-ball assignment during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. However, Bumrah is not considered to lead the Indian team because of the excessive workload that he will have to handle. As per the reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) is most likely going to appoint Shubman Gill as the new leader of the team in whites.

Wasim Jaffer went to his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account to suggest BCCI that in case Jasprit Bumrah does not have any issues to lead the team, then he should be given the leadership role with Shubman Gill being appointed as vice-captain.

The five-match Test series between India and England is set to begin June 20, and is going to be the first red-ball outing for the national team. The BCCI is going to announce India’s squad for the series by May 17.
