Treble-seeking Western Cape Cobras crushed Highveld Lions by an innings and 83 runs Saturday in a South African SuperSport Series match at Newlands.

Lions were all out for 86 and 172 in Cape Town and Cobras’ one innings yielded 341 as they adjust their sights to the four-day title after winning the national 50-over championship last weekend.

Rory Kleinveldt was destroyer-in-chief for the Cobras with a 5-42 second-innings haul and Robin Peterson (2-25) proved economical as his 13-over spell included five maidens.

The other two games are balanced with a draw looming in Bloemfontein between table toppers Central Knights and visitors Northern Titans as batsmen continue to dominate at Chevrolet Park.

Boeta Dippenaar (109 not out) and Obus Pienaar (83) were the latest to reach hefty totals as the Knights climbed to 270-5 after Titans totalled 461 for a 23-run first-innings advantage.

Coastal Dolphins are 121-1 second time round with D.J. van Wyk undefeated on 62 and need a further 321 runs to defeat hosts Eastern Cape Warriors, who declared at 369-9 in Indian Ocean city Port Elizabeth. (AFP)
