Fine centuries by Paras Dogra (174 not out) and Abhinav Bali (122) steered Himachal Pradesh to 347 for two against Tripura on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy Plate division match.

Put into bat, the visitors lost opener Paul Valthaty (13) cheaply but Bali and Dogra batted brilliantly to put on 241-run stand together for the second wicket.

The pair’s patient batting frustrated the hosts as they struggled to break the partnership.

Skipper Timir Chanda (1/83) managed to see off Bali for a 194-ball 122, studded with 16 fours.

But even after his departure, Dogra continued in the able company of the experienced middle-order batsman S Sriram and duo added another 78 runs for the third wicket to take Himachal to a huge total.

At stumps, Dogra remained unbeaten on 174 (264 balls; 22X4), while Sriram was batting on 25.

For Tripura, apart Chanda, Rana Dutta claimed a wicket. (PTI)
