Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Dolphins CLT20 2014 Match 8 at Bengaluru: Vaughn van Jaarsveld dismissed

Sep 22, 2014

Vaughn van Jaarsveld was turning on the screws for the Dolphins and a couple of lusty hits to the fence kept the Dolphins right on course. The usually reliable Ravichandran Ashwin was taken apart with utter disdain from the batsmen and the required rate was dipping with an average of 12 runs an over maintained by the batsmen.

Suresh Raina got a taste of his own medicine when Vaughn van Jaarsveld smashed a six and a four of the tenth over of the match and the Dolphins’ score was ahead of CSK’s at the 10 over mark. Dwayne Bravo was brought on and his slow medium pacers immediately removed the dangerous Cody Chetty as Dolphins lost their fourth wicket.  The spin twins, Ravinchandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja wrested back advantage in the CL T20 match for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Dolphins as two tight overs got back the breathing space that the Indian side desperately needed.

Earlier, Mohit Sharma came back for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and bowled a tidy over for the first four balls and then Suresh Raina’s fielding prowess was also on full display when he saved a certain boundary and then the medium pacer capped of a wonderful over by removing the dangerous Keshav Maharaj.

After being smashed to all parts of the ground in the first few overs, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Ashish Nehra came back superbly and gave a miserly two runs — incredible under the circumstances and it looked like the brakes on the scoring would be on. But Cody Chetty had other ideas and went after Ravindra Jadeja right away and cracked to big sixes and Ishwar Pandey’s poor fielding leaked four more runs and Dolphins were on course.

Cameron Delport went berserk and the Chennai Super Kings were looking for answers everywhere as runs flowed in all directions in the third over from Mohit Sharma and the Dolphins were incredibly onn track to chase down CSK huge total. After being smashed for three boundaries and a six, Mohit came back and Delport was unfortunately bowled to bring an end to one of the most entertatining knocks in the CLT20 so far.

Earlier, Ashish Nehra started proceedings for Chennai Super Kings and the Dolphins were on it in a flash. The South Africans are born and bred on the pace and bounce in the Rainbow Nation and the ball was carted to all parts of the ground for the batsmen Morne van,Wyk and and Deport. After 20 runs came of the first over, more damage was in store and and Ravichandran Ashwin was treated with utmost disdain before the captian was adjudged leg before.

It was the eight match of the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) and the cricketing idioms belting the ball, carnage from the batsmen etc died a very tame death from the blood thirsty blades of Brendon McCullum and Suresh Raina and similarly beastly cameos from Faf du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja down the order. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) simply feasted on a hapless Dolphins bowling attack and it was back to protecting their brittle heads with helmets for the Bengaluru crowd who turned out in large numbers to support their rivals across the border.

Things did not start all that well though. Dwyane Smith launched into the attack and it was a big six back over the bowler Keshav Maharaj’s head and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was on the march. This was over the long on region. Maharaj again offered some flight and a hint of turn got the toe edge of Smith’s bat and the ball was high up in the air and and Khaya Zondo at long off.
