Indian Test opener Cheteshwar Pujara smashed a brilliant 55-ball 81 during a T20 match for Saurashtra against Jammu and Kashmir in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2015-16 at the Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Monday. It was his knock that helped Saurashtra post a total of 157  for seven in 20 overs, as J&K were bowkled out for mere 84 in 17.1 overs, as they registered a thumping 73-run victory and earned the all-crucial four points. Pujara was adjudjed the Man of the Match for his match-winning performance as he is expected to fire more in the upcomiong games for his team. Saurashtra meanwhile are on a roll in the tournament.

Earlier, Pujara was appointed as the brand ambassador of half marathon to be organised here on January 24. The marathon is jointly organised by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) and the city police. RMC Commissioner Vijay Nehra said the right-handed batsman has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the marathon, “Pujara has done well at international level representing India and he would be the decisive face of the event to encourage participants.” An elated Pujara said, “It is a very proud moment for me that I have been appointed as the brand ambassador for the event,” reported PTI.

Whenever Pujara is off duty, the budding cricketers in the outskirts of Rajkot regularly keep a tab of the performance of their favourite hero. With all the money from Indian Premier League (IPL), cricketers invest heavily on bungalows, cars or farm house, but the 30-year-old Pujara chose to invest on six acres of land and built cricket pitches on it to persuade the budding cricket talents.
