Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly feels the retirements of stalwarts Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman should be respected. He feels India is going through a transition period which gives a chance for youngsters to make a mark in international cricket.

He said, “The shelf life of a cricketer is short. Laxman has been a tremendous player and we should respect his decision to quit international cricket.”

But with several senior players not with the team anymore, is India missing out on experienced players?

“Even the Australian team has lost a lot of senior players over the last couple of years. This is a transition period, which paves way for several youngsters to play for the country,” said Ganguly.

Praising young guns Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara, he further adds, “Having lost Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman, I feel that Cheteshwar and Virat are the best replacements who will take the Indian team a long way. But they have to perform consistently over a period of time.”

Ganguly said he is still in good terms with Shahrukh Khan, the owner of his former Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

He said,”I met him at a couple of events and we still talk. He’s shuttling between movies and cricket, which is a great thing. He’s a rock star!”

Ganguly, who quit international cricket in 2008, said he doesn t miss int l cricket much.

He was quoted by Times of India as saying, “I don’t miss international cricket much. Even though I am not playing for the team as such, I am always associated with it,”

The former Indian captain had played three seasons with KKR before being dropped from the team in 2011.

Ganguly stated that he won t be playing the IPL for a long time.
