After a splendid start for new franchise, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Chris Gayle bowed out of form in the latter half of the league stage of ongoing VIVO IPL 2018. As a result, and due to other prevalent issues, KXIP failed to qualify for playoffs. Before leaving India, Gayle was present in Pune’s Blades of Glory cricket museum. Known not to mince his words, Gayle opened up on the much-talked about 100-ball cricket, about a player’s form and also had a suggestion for Indian players.

Surely, IPL is a launchpad for several young cricketers to rub shoulders with some big international stars, Gayle believes India should allow their players to feature in other T20 tournaments.

“In India  there are so many cricketers that a lot of talented cricketers don’t get to play in the IPL. I would love to see them play for other leagues as well. Some of those talented players won’t get a chance to play for the national team as it is always hard to get into the Indian team. So this way they can get some experience of playing international level cricket,” opined Gayle.

Gayle is widely regarded as the Universe Boss for his blitz in the shorter formats. He also has two triple hudnreds in Test cricket, and he rightly says, “Did you say Universe Boss of T20 cricket? Well I am boss of all formats.”

Adding to the point that form is temporary, and shouldn’t be taken too seriously, Gayle told TOI, “When you play all forms of cricket, you need to make some necessary adjustments as quickly as possible. I have played so much of cricket that it isn’t a big problem for me now, but when I had just started, changing over quickly was a bit tentative. At times, to have the timing (right) and make the adjustments from white ball to red-ball cricket was (a little difficult). But as you go on and get some experience, it is just another game.

ECB have received mixed response since their decision to introduce 100-ball cricket. While some are of the opinion that it would create the right noise, few think it is an unnecessary addition. Gayle concluded by saying. “I haven’t read about it in detail. A lot of people are talking about it and speculating things, but I will have to wait and see what the actual thing is.”
