Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are at 14 for no loss against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after three overs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014. Chris Gayle is batting on four and Parthiv Patel is on 10. Bangalore are chasing a 139-run target. This is Match 42 of IPL 7. Chennai captain MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat at Ranchi. David Hussey has been brought into the Chennai line-up in place of Faf du Plessis. Varun Aaron comes in for Vijay Zol for Bangalore.

Chris Gayle and Parthiv Patel began the run-chase for Bangalore. Mohit Sharma bowled the first over. Gayle got off the mark on the first delivery. Parthiv then punched one down the ground for a four to get going. He then whipped one off the pads towards deep square-leg for a second four in the over. Ravichandran Ashwin bowled the second over and troubled both the left-handers with some spin. Seeing this, captain MS Dhoni brought leg-spinner Samuel Badree to bowl the third over.

Earlier, Chennai posted a total of 138 for four in their 20 overs. Suresh Raina scored an unbeaten 62 off 48 deliveries with six fours and one six. David Hussey scored 25 off 29 deliveries. Varun Aaron took two wickets for 29 runs.
