Explosive left-handed West Indies batsman Chris Gayle has signed to play for South African franchise the Dolphins in the country’s domestic Twenty20 (T20) competition, reports said.
Gayle will join the Dolphins next February, and is considered to be one of the most destructive batsmen in world cricket. He has scored 6,373 runs in his 91 Test matches, and 8,087 runs in 228 ODIs.
The Australian Big Bash League team Perth Scorchers were initially trying to rope in Gayle for the upcoming season, but the two parties failed to agree on the contractual amount.
Gayle has played 20 Twenty20 internationals, and has gathered 617 runs at a strike-rate of 144.49.
Dolphins had earlier signed Australian paceman Shaun Tait.
