Richard Levi and Hashim Amla opened the batting for Cobras. Levi hit four runs in the first over when he hit a straight drive off Anureet Singh, who had opened the bowling instead of Parvinder Awana, who came in from the other end. In the second over, Levi flicked Awana through mid-wicket for a four. The last ball of the over was flicked by him for a six. Earlier, Kings XI Punjab captain George Bailey had won the toss and had elected to bowl first. They are playing the same side. Dane Vilas is captaining Cape Cobras as Justin Ontong is out injured. They have also been forced to leave out Charl Langeveldt due to injury.
