Perth Scorchers’ spinner Brad Hogg said that his team was looking to erase their poor record from the previous two appearances in the Champions League T20 (CLT20) and also wanted to upset a few Indian Premier League (IPL) teams. Perth have won only one match in this edition and lost two matches by a narrow margin which has put them out of the semi-final race. The second of the two losses came on Saturday night against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

“We kept ourselves in the game but couldn’t go all the way. We wanted to come here and upset a few IPL teams. We showed that we have improved a lot from the last year and that is a great thing. We are moving forward,” Hogg was quoted as saying by the official website of CLT20.

Hogg was positive that Perth have had an experience of sealing close games but they’ve failed to replicate the same here. However, he said the team can pick a lot of lessons from CLT20 and come back stronger next time.

“Back home we pride ourselves on winning the close games. In the Big Bash over the last couple of years, even if we’ve only got 120 or 130, we have still managed to get over the line. It is our strength back home and we need to replicate it in tournaments like this. We have got a great set of lads and a very strong culture. It’s a fine mix of youth and experience. I am proud of the boys and hope that when we come back to the CLT20 in the near future, we will really put the IPL teams under the pump,” said Hogg.

The chinaman bowler added that he enjoyed a lot bowling in Indian conditions especially in the match against CSK.  “I really enjoyed it. It was very different from the last couple of games I have played here. I think the weather played a part. The downpour we had a couple of days ago helped create conditions favourable to spinners. Full credit to the curator for serving such a great wicket that entertained the crowd.”
