Following a dominant batting display on Day 1 of the first Test between India and England at Leeds, former England pacer Stuart Broad believes that the visitors reaching over the 550-run mark is going to possibly take the match away from the English side.
Speaking about Day 1, India were sent to bat first and openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal provided a strong start to the team. Rahul departed after he scored 42 runs, quickly followed by debutant Sai Sudarshan- who was dismissed on a 4-ball duck.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was the third player to go down, but he left the field after scoring a historic century. By the end of Day 1, India was at a commanding score of 359/3 with captain Shubman Gill was unbeaten at 127 runs, along with vice captain Rishabh Pant being unbeaten at 65 runs.
“It is a young batting line-up, but they batted with real presence and maturity. They judged the tempo brilliantly, made the bowlers work hard, and did not give away any easy wickets. Without a doubt, it was India’s day. They were superb. England will have a lot to think about – there’s pressure now, because if India gets to 550 or 600, the game could be out of reach,” JioHotstar expert Broad said.
England will aim to bounce back on Day 2 while eyeing to break the partnership between Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant- finishing India’s innings as soon as possible.
