CPI(M) on Thursday welcomed government’s move to nominate cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as a member of the Rajya Sabha, saying it was a ‘good’ proposal.

“It is good. Government should nominate people like Sachin Tendulkar and other eminent persons from different walks of life,” CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat told reporters on the sidelines of a party function.

Earlier in the day Sachin Tendulkar and his wife Anjali, met Congress President Sonia Gandhi at her 10 Janpath residence.

The iconic cricketer, who had notched up his 100th one-day international ton in Asia Cup tournament in Dhaka last month, is among four eminent persons who have been recommended for nomination as members of the Rajya Sabha. (PTI)
