Noted cricket journalist and former president of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), Christopher Martin-Jenkins passed away on Tuesday morning. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer in January 2012.

His death was confirmed by noted journalist Jonathan Agnew on social networking site Twitter.

“Desperately sad to tell you that CMJ died peacefully this morning,” Agnew expressed.

Jenkins joined BBC’s Test Match Special (TMS) team in 1972, succeeding Brian Johnston as the BBC‘s cricket correspondent. He held the post until 1991, with a four-year break between 1981 and 1984, the BBC informed.

He also worked as a cricket correspondent with the Daily Telegraph from 1990-1999, and The Times  from 1999-2008.

During the 2009 New Year Honours, he was a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
