    India great and junior coach Rahul Dravid will need to apply for the post of head coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) after the BCCI on Saturday decided to invite fresh applications. The BCCI will be inviting applications for the newly created position of head coach and Dravid, who is already in charge of India A and India under-19 teams, is the front-runner for the job.

    “A transparent application process will be followed like it is the case now with all BCCI jobs. Dravid is obviously a favourite for the role as he is already in charge of the junior national teams,” said a BCCI official after a Committee of Administrators (CoA) meeting in New Delhi.

    The appointment of women’s head coach WV Raman in controversial circumstances will be reviewed by BCCI Ombudsman and Ethics Officer D K Jain, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) decided in a meeting here on Saturday. Former India opener Raman was appointed in December following a selection process conducted by an ad-hoc panel comprising former captain Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy. However, the then two-member CoA comprising chairman Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji were strongly divided on the coach selection process.

    The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) on Saturday decided that the playoffs of the 12th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) will start from 7:30 pm instead of the scheduled 8 p.m. start. A BCCI executive said that dew will be an important factor down south while the host broadcasters, Star Sports, had already requested for an early start as the playoffs will be followed by an elaborate presentation ceremony.

    The BCCI on Saturday recommended India pacers Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah, allrounder Ravindra Jadeja and women’s team player Poonam Yadav for the Arjuna award. The decision was taken during the Supreme Court-appointed CoA meeting in the capital.

    Chennai Super Kings, who were playing without their regular skipper MS Dhoni, lost by 46 runs to Mumbai Indians at their home ground in their IPL fixture here on Friday night. Chasing 156 sans Dhoni, CSK were bundled out for a mere 109 runs in 18 overs. Dhoni had to sit out the game because of fever and his absence was felt acutely by CSK as none of their batters showed application to stay long at a slow Chepauk wicket. Speaking after the game, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming admitted that Dhoni’s absence in the middle was a void his team found too difficult to fill on Friday.

    Chennai Super Kings‘ stand-in skipper Suresh Raina blamed the team’s batting for the 46-run loss which they faced against Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday night.

    It was the Mumbai bowlers, who came all guns blazing on a slow wicket to wrap up the home side, who were chasing a modest 156-run target, on a paltry 109 runs. Lasith Malinga was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors with figures of 4/37, while Krunal Pandya and Hardik Pandya bagged couple of wickets each.

    Chasing the target, Chennai got off to a worst-possible start as Malinga dismissed opener Shane Watson (8) before Hardik struck to send back Suresh Raina (2), reducing the yellow brigade to 22/2 in 3.1 overs. Murali Vijay (38 off 35) tried his best to repair the major damages but lacked support from the other end as incoming batsman Ambati Rayudu also departed without opening his account. Krunal accounted for the wicket of the Chennai wicketkeeper.

    The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) will discuss the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nominations for this year’s Arjuna Award among others things when they meet in the Capital on Saturday. GM Cricket Operations Saba Karim is expected to propose the names to the committee comprising of Vinod Rai, Diana Edulji and Lt. Gen. Ravi Thodge.

    Without Dhoni, CSK have been vulnerable, with the bat and behind the stumps. Dhoni was missed in the early staged of MI’s innings itself and Rayudu, keeping wickets, missed an edge of Lewis. The ball took a faint nick but neither Rayudu nor Harbhajan appealed, allowing Lewis to get away with en early reprieve. And later, when it was CSK’s turn to bat, the middle order was blown to pieces by MI’s strong bowling line-up emerging to the fore.
