England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow, who was in stupendous form in the ongoing edition of the IPL, has hailed the tournament, saying it helps in developing skills.

Bairstow amassed 445 runs in the 10 matches he played in his debut IPL season for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Bairstow said, “You go to the IPL to develop your skills, to put them up against the best in the world. We saw Jos (Buttler) coming back into the Test side last summer after a brilliant IPL. The competition over there can only improve your skills.”

Back playing for Bangladesh after nearly five months, Shakib Al Hasan has revealed that the time spent recovering from surgery rejuvenated him.

“Sometimes in your life, you need a kick, like in the movie. I have got the kick, I won’t say how,” he said. “That’s a secret. It has come in a way that has awakened me.

“It’s not a big deal. I was fit up to 2011. After that, I didn’t get much chance to work on my fitness and I didn’t feel any push too. But I have got the kick now.”

England county club Hampshire have signed South Africa allrounder Chris Morris for the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast.

The 32-year-old will be available immediately after his World Cup commitments and represent them in the T20 Blast that gets underway in July.

“I’m really looking forward to joining Hampshire for the Vitality Blast. It’s an exciting tournament and an exciting summer is coming up… I can’t wait to get there and play at the Ageas Bowl and express what I can do,” Morris said on Wednesday.

Morris was on Tuesday drafted into Proteas’ World Cup squad as a replacement for Anrich Nortje, who sustained a thumb injury.

Former England captain turned TV pundit Michael Vaughan is of the opinion that India have made a mistake by not selecting Rishabh Pant in their 15-man squad for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

“I think India have made a big mistake. Looking at India’s batting line-up, they’re all right-handers except for [Shikhar] Dhawan. I think they need a different combination and Pant is a firecracker,” said Vaughan. “He will make mistakes but as we’ve seen in the IPL, he gets it right more often than not.”

Liam Plunkett said England would be a “better team” if Jofra Archer made it into their World Cup squad after his fellow fast bowler again impressed on international duty.

Archer continued his late bid for a World Cup berth with a hostile opening spell against Pakistan at The Oval on Wednesday. He took one wicket and conceded just six runs in four overs before rain meant there was no result in the first ODI of a five-match series.

Australian cricketers‘ once-notorious behaviour has significantly improved amid attempts to clean-up the game’s culture after the ball-tampering scandal, Cricket Australia said on Thursday.

The men’s national team had no conduct citings during 2018-19 season, the first clean sheet in seven years, and code of conduct charges at all levels dropped 74 percent, CA chairman Earl Eddings said.

“Everyone in Australian cricket is well aware that it’s not just winning that counts, but how we play the game, and the players have certainly embraced that spirit,” Eddings said.

Chasing 163, Delhi Capitals – in their first IPL playoff match since 2012 – beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by two wickets with one delivery remaining. From needing 12 runs off 12 deliveries, Capitals three wickets in the span of 10 deliveries.

With two balls left in the match, Keemo Paul pulled left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed to the midwicket boundary for the winning runs.

Wednesday’s narrow win over SRH was the first in a playoff match for a Delhi franchise, after the erstwhile Delhi Daredevils lost four semi-finals in 2008 and 2009 and both Qualifiers in 2012.

Capitals will now play defending champions Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 2 on Friday.
