Cricket World Cup 2019: New Zealand opt to bat; India drop Kuldeep for Chahal

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bat first against India in the first semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in Manchester on Tuesday.

Under grey skies, Williamson won a good toss keeping in mind the various situations that may arise with rain being forecast later in the day. They made on change to their playing XI with Lockie Ferguson replacing Tim Southee.

“It looks like a good surface. We have played a number of games here. A toss-up with the overheads, but it’ll be around all day, so we need to get the job first up. We are used to the routine, but we have a great opportunity to put up a good performance against a side like India,” Williamson said at the toss.

India captain Virat Kohli said he would have liked to bat first as well on what looks like a fresh wicket. “The ball will get wet as the game goes on. It (the pitch) could remain decent throughout the game, remain similar throughout We have had two good games in Manchester, and it’s about focusing on the basics,” Kohli said.

India have also made one change to their playing Xi with Yuzvendra Chahal replacing Kuldeep Chahal.
