Shikhar Dhawan overcame the thumb injury and scored a ton while Virat Kohli scored 82 as India beat Australia in their second match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at The Oval in London on Sunday.

Dhawan was struck on his left thumb by a Pat Cummins bouncer in the ninth over. However, the left-hander carried on and scored 117. While Dhawan did not take the field when India bowled, his innings set up India’s 36-run win.

Dhawan, who became Man of the Match for his match-winning ton, credited the team effort for India’s second win in a row in the World Cup.

“We are happy with the result as it was a great team effort. It’s a great sign for our team and I’m happy with this man of the match award. Very happy with the performance overall,” said Dhawan.

“We are a great fielding side, we took great catches. We have a good bowling side, great spinners as well,” he added.

Dhawan also highlighted why the team is coming up with the results like the one which was possible on Sunday against Australia. The Indian opener also said that the team’s fans will be happy with India’s win over the Aaron Finch-led Australian side.

“The fans are having a great time and they’ll be happy with this win,” concluded Dhawan.
