An 83-run stand between Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis off 10.1 overs revived Chennai Super Kings’ innings after a super slow start against Delhi capitals in Match 50 of IPL 2019 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday, helping their team to 102/3 on 15 overs, when the strategic time-out was taken.

However, both the well-set batsman were back in the hut in quick succession, as Delhi managed a comeback after they restricted CSK to 27/1 in the first six over.

Raina made 59 off 37 balls, hitting his 37th IPL fifty, and 50th in T20s before he was beaten in flight by Jadeesha Suchith, slicing to point. du Plessis made 39 off 41 balls before getting caught by Dhawan in the 14th over off Azar Patel.

CSK had such a slow start against DC that they got in to double figures only in the fifth over, after losing Shane Watson to an eight-ball duck off Jagadeesha Suchith.

CSK crawled to just 27/1 after Trent Boult send down a tidy first spell of 2-0-2-0 while Suchith’s two yielded just five runs. Chirs Morris was taken for two fours in his first over by Du Plessis and Raina.

Watson, after playing a dot of Boult and four dots off Suchith, tried to get going with a hoick off a half-tracker off Suchith but found Axar Patel at deep midwicket.

But, Raina and du Plessis added 23 runs in 16 balls to get CSK going. The last over of the powerplay bowled by Patel went for 10 runs, with Raina getting two fours.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl. DC brought in Suchith and Trent Boult while Kagiso Rabada was rested. For CSK, Dhoni, du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja were back after missing the previous game.
