Dale Steyn has picked the wicket of Kraigg Brathwaite in the on-going match against West Indies, taking his tally to 390 wickets which makes him the joint second highest wicket taker for South Africa with Makhaya Ntini. Only Shaun Pollock with 421 wickets is ahead of them.

Steyn has achieved the milestone in  only his 78th match at an outstanding average of 22.54 and a strike-rate of 41.6. He will now have his eyes trained on that tally of 421 wickets to become the highest wicket-taker for his country. Shaun Pollock got to to 421 wickets in 108 matches at an average of 23.11. It will be interesting to see how many more matches  Dale Steyn will require to get to the landmark.

Among the other currently active players only Morne Morkel features in the list with 213 wickets of 62 matches and is the 6th highest wicket-taker for the Proteas. He still has a long way to go to get into the top three of the list. Ranked fourth on the list is Allan Donald with 330 wickets of 72 matches. He also has the best average among all in the list.
