Damian D’Oliveira, the son of former England batsman Basil, passed away at the age of 53. D’Oliveira was suffering from cancer, new reports suggested on Sunday. He had a long career with Worcestershire and after retirement, he was a part of their setup. The news of the death was tweeted by Jonathan Agnew and Michael Vaughan.

BBC reported Worcestershire club releasing a statement, “Worcestershire are sad to report that academy director Damian D’Oliveira passed away in the early hours of this morning. D’Oliveira has bravely been battling cancer for the past two-and-a-half years.”

D’Oliviera played 234 matches and scored 9504 runs at an average of 27.62. He last played in 1995 but has been there in their management for a long time. His son Brett now plays for Worcestershire. His other sons Malcolm and Dominic have also played representative cricket. His father, Basil, was one of the leading cricketers of his era and he passed away in 2011.
